Deep Light 1.0.8

Deep Light 1.0.8: everything new since 1.0.4

Deep Light 1.0.8 is out, for Core and Pro. It is the first update for Core since 1.0.4, so here is everything that changed since then, including what Pro got first in 1.0.5 to 1.0.7.

Download updated on 28 October: sun rays now work for Pro on DX12. If your copy of 1.0.8 shows them as not available, download the zip again and run Install.bat with the game closed. Your settings are kept. The version is still 1.0.8, so the in-game Update button will not offer this replacement.

Updates from the game

From 1.0.8 on, you update Deep Light from the game. When a new version is out, the Deep Light panel (ReShade > Add-ons > DBM Deep Light) shows an Update now button. It downloads only the files that changed, checks every one of them, and the new version runs the next time you start the game. Your settings, presets and DirectX choice stay as they are.

When an update also needs a new ReShade, DLSS or FSR, the panel tells you, and you install that one with Install.bat from the zip, as before.

1.0.8 itself still installs the old way, since the button comes with it: download the zip below and run Install.bat. From the next update on, the zip is optional.

Crash reports that reach me

More of you play with Deep Light every week, and that is great. But with more players, crashes started showing up that I never hear about. A comment under a video, a “crashed twice, going back to my old preset”, and that is it: no log, no PC details, nothing I can fix. Only a handful of you have written to me about a crash, but I know most people who crash never write.

A crash I never see is a crash that stays for everyone. So from 1.0.8, Deep Light sends a short crash report to dbmmods.com on its own, the next time the game starts after a session that did not end normally.

What a report contains:

  • The Deep Light version, the game version, and DX11 or DX12.
  • Your graphics card, its driver and its memory, and the Windows version.
  • Which program crashed (Deep Light, the game, the graphics driver or another add-on), and the last lines of Deep Light’s log.
  • Which Deep Light features were on, and which other add-ons and game plugins were loaded.

What it does not contain: no name, no email, no licence key, no IP address, no screenshots, nothing about your saves. Your Windows user name is removed from every file path before the report leaves your PC.

The reports go to one place: me, to find what crashes and fix it. They are deleted after 90 days. If you do not want them, CrashReports=0 in the [DeepLight] section of ReShade.ini turns them off. The details are in the privacy policy.

Everything new since 1.0.4

For everyone (Core and Pro)

  • Update now: new versions install from the game panel, as above.
  • Crash reports: sent on their own after a crash, as above.
  • DX11 or DX12, your choice: Install.bat now asks which one you want, and tells you what DX11 leaves out. If your game is not stable on DX12 with an older card or driver, pick DX11. SwitchDirectX.bat in the zip switches later, in both directions.
  • Deep Light in your language: German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Romanian, Polish, Russian, Turkish and Chinese. By default it follows the game’s language, or pick one on Home. If a line reads oddly, tell me and I fix it.
  • Other add-ons on Home: Home now lists the other ReShade add-ons running next to Deep Light. If something crashes or flickers, that list is the first place to look.
  • Scaling while you play: changing Scaling in the game’s graphics options no longer needs a restart. Frame generation and DLSS or FSR keep running, and the lighting stays right.
  • Fixed: shadows could turn black, or the image blue, after Scaling was changed in a session, and a crash could follow a Scaling change.
  • Fixed: the image could shake with DLSS or FSR upscaling at some Scaling values, for example 75% on 16:10 screens.
  • Fixed (DX12): in rain under an overcast sky, wet roads, puddles and vehicles could flash red, green, blue or black.
  • Presets: clearer tips on what each preset is for.
  • Installer and licence: a sturdier installer, and licence checks that hold up better.

For Pro

  • ETS2 1.62 open beta: every feature on the 1.62 open beta, leaf materials included.
  • Sun rays (DX12): when the sun is low, light streams through the gaps in trees, bridges and buildings towards you, with a soft lens flare. Advanced > Quality, with Strength, Length and Lens flare sliders.

Game versions

  • ETS2 1.61: Core and Pro.
  • ETS2 1.62 open beta: Pro. Open betas are Pro first: Core gets 1.62 with a Deep Light update once SCS releases it as stable. Until then, Core stays off on the 1.62 beta and says so in the overlay.
  • Your settings are kept.

If something goes wrong, you no longer have to send me anything. If you want to tell me more, support@dbmmods.com is still there.
